Catfish: Online Relationships Are Now In "The Frying Pan"....
Okay, So let me first start off by saying that I absolutely LOVED the show when it first premiered. Now, I just like it. Here's why:
First of all, the conclusions are all the same, with the exception of Alyx and that vampire chick). You mean to tell me that you were all IN LOVE with the person you saw on the profile pictures. And then you discover instead of the ''blond, Barbie doll" (as Abby bluntly put it), you met an overweight individual with low self-esteem. Then all of a sudden the ''victim'' is like, "Oh, I need to work on myself so I think we should be friends....yadda, yadda, yadda...". Cut the crap. He/She knows that they are not attracted to them. Just come out and say that, you know? But the thing that gets me is the ''victim'' is not a beauty king/queen themselves.....Have you ever heard of the saying, ''beggars can't be choosers?"
But my conflict comes in because in essence (that is word of the day), the person you were talking online with, sharing feelings with, etc was the person you met on the day Nev showed up with those cameramen at their house. The only thing that was changed was the image (in most cases). Catfish really sheds light on how shallow we can be when it comes to looks. Point. Blank. Period.
Now it is time to chastise the "predators"....Why couldn't you just keep it honest with the person you were talking to? Even if you look like that deformed man from "The Goonies", there is someone out there who will find you attractive.
Second, why the does the predator always have to have a ''sad background"? Couldn't they possibly just be assholes? For example, with the episode with Jasmine and Mhissy. When Nev asked her why did she do it, she explains that she was trying to divert the Jasmine's attention from ex, which was Mhissy current boyfriend (We will get to the ''boyfriend'' in a second). So when Nev wants to further investigate Mhissy, she breaks down with this "Oh, I lost my baby (with another man) and that is why I did this...". No! What does this have to do with ANYTHING?! You did this because you are a childish female that likes drama. End of story. And where was the guy that caused this tryst between the two young women? Nowhere in sight. While Mhissy bragged to the crew and Jasmine that "He is driving my car as we speak...", ol' boy was probably laughing with his friends. If that man loved you, he would have been there when Jasmine arrived with the cameramen. Then we learn that he is an aspiring producer/rapper/who gives a damn. He is about to get so much publicity.
Finally, why do they have to be friends at the end? These people have gotten played and you want them to be friends? Some of the cases, yes it is possible. But some.....well, let's just say that you should be lucky that assault wasn't the end result. Nev should let the folks just walk away and decide what direction they want that relationship to go.
All in all, Catfish is a good show. It is just a level higher than Cheaters.....
